PyTexas2011 is planned to take place on Sept 10 and 11 in College Station at Texas A&M at the HRBB Computer Science Building. Thanks go to JeremyKelley for arranging this.

At Texas A&M University, Python has become an important part of the curriculum and enjoys strong faculty support and student interest.

There is no rule against food and drinks in the rooms (floors are tile). Breakfast, coffee, and snacks will be catered. For lunch, we'll walk to nearby restaurants.

A variety of bars and restaurants are two blocks from the Computer Science Building, and Snoball.com is throwing a party on Saturday evening.

There is of course quite a lot of things to eat, to see, and the usual college definition of 'entertainment', see StuffToDoNearby2011 for details.

Getting There

The Texas A&M website has useful travel info. Texas A&M also has a campus map with buildings named properly and visitor parking marked.

If you're using a GPS for navigation, you can point it to the parking lot using the coordinates 30.619695,-96.337086.

Finding the Building and Parking

PyTexas takes place on the first floor of the Harvey Bright building (HRBB), which is represented here on the campus map.

Parking is completely free on weekends; there is a large parking lot to the northeast of the HRBB building. The coordinates for the closest parking lot are: 30.619695,-96.337086.

If you're arriving on Fri to help out with preparations, use Parking Lot 51 (30.621313,-96.337792) which provides paid hourly visitor parking.

Rooms

The rooms reserved will be the 144 seat auditorium, 3 smaller 30-40 seat break out rooms (for the sprints, etc), and then the 65 seat room which could be used as a separate vendor area. There are also some additional rooms tentatively available for open space meetings.

There is an online spreadsheet showing details about the rooms, but here is a quick summary:

We may also be able to use HRBB 115. It only holds 20, but should be fine for an open space room. It has no projectors but we plan to bring one for this room.

We also have conference rooms in HRBB 320, 501A, and 516. Most likely they are available. 129 is an office with two desks & chairs which also might be available. If needed, JeremyKelley can schedule those for as well.

Connectivity

Wifi will be free, but will require a reserved guest account. 175 accounts will be reserved ahead of the date so that they can be provided for individuals when checking in.

Estimated Travel Times

These times are vaguely recalled from a dinnertime conversation with College Station locals. Please check and correct this info.

Easterwood Airport is about a 5 minute from from the TAMU campus.
